ABOUT FEEDHALTON

FeedHalton’s mandate is to feed community together

FeedHalton was formally established in 2023 to centrally and sustainably address the increasing rates of food insecurity in the Region as the food bank distribution hub. FeedHalton supports our Agency Network of 16+ food banks, community organizations and meal program partners in Halton through the distribution of free, essential, personal products, food and goods.

Food insecurity continues to steadily rise each year in Halton with many households accessing food supports for the first time. FeedHalton supports food banks, community organizations and meal programs through our centralized distribution model, delivering reliable and consistent food and goods to help meet increasing demands.

How Do We Work?

FeedHalton operates as a hub and spoke model via a central warehouse distribution centre (the hub) to serve existing Halton Region food bank agencies (the spokes).

The 11,000 sq ft facility uses the “FIND-STORE-SHIP” lifecycle of food, with the ability to procure and receive food in bulk, sort and ship, for free, to Agency Network partners based on their specific needs and asks.

Through volume-based procurement and centralized operations, the Agency Network benefits from increased access to food and personal good products as well as other supports such as storage capacity and delivery options to meet their local needs.

FeedHalton provides important support to Halton’s food support agencies so they can continue to care for a growing number of neighbours in need.

PROCUREMENT

Procurement is centralized and coordinated at FeedHalton to source and secure food and products in large volumes and create purchasing power. In-kind donation arrangements are also pursued with the goal of reaching as many end-clients of the Agency Network partners as possible.

INTAKE & STORAGE

FeedHalton operates an 11,000 square foot warehouse in the east end of Burlington close to major highways. Our footprint and location have been designed to manage deliveries of large loads and high numbers of product pallets through three docks, one of which is a drive-in. The warehouse is outfitted with industrial refrigeration and freezers as well as extensive racking. Our operations team, equipment and technology can manage the intake of volume deliveries from storage to sorting to shipment out to the Agency Network

SORTING & PACKING

FeedHalton relies on a team of consistent volunteers to help with sorting of all products and getting those packed and ready for delivery to the Agency Network partners. Sorting and packing all items is consistent with Food Banks of Canada and FeedOntario guidelines.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

FeedHalton operates a distribution truck throughout Halton and has also coordinated a partnership with Food for Life to leverage their extensive transportation fleet that already has routes throughout Halton. Shipping and distribution are managed centrally through FeedHalton including weekly scheduling to service the needs of the Agency Network

By coordinating response to meet increased food support demands from the Agency Network and the communities they serve, FeedHalton offers more stability and security in the food and essential goods system.
