Our Agency Network includes food banks, meal programs and community partners located throughout Halton, Acton, Georgetown, Milton, Oakville and Burlington. Working with our Network, our goal is to help them support as many people experiencing food insecurity in our community as possible.

HOW IT WORKS

Meeting Needs

With our volume-based procurement ability and centralized delivery and operations model, FeedHalton seeks to supply sustainable inventory to Agency Partners so they may focus their resources on fulfilling unique, local needs.

Feed Ontario Benefits

Feed Ontario supports a network of more than 1,200 food banks and hunger-relief organizations across Ontario by administering food distribution programs and also by providing food banks with additional services including training, grant opportunities, investment in innovative programs, and sharing resources and ideas through the network. By joining FeedHalton, each partner will receive these benefits.

  • FeedHalton

FeedHalton serves as a food distributor for partner agencies that provide food to individuals facing food insecurity in the Halton Region. Through a membership agreement with Feed Ontario, FeedHalton follows a hub-and-spoke distribution model, enabling us to reach more agencies and communities in the Halton Region.

  • Service Area

The Halton Region: Acton, Burlington, Georgetown, Milton, and Oakville.

  • What We Do

FeedHalton’s Distribution Centre collects, manages, and distributes food to regional hunger relief organizations in support of their programs. Purchased and donated food is received at our Distribution Centre, sorted and stored. Our partner agencies can then order the food from our warehouse for pick-up or delivery, where the food is provided to those in need in our communities through their programs and organizations.

  • Who We Serve

Emergency food pantries and food banks, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, snack programs, and other emergency meal programs.

  • Food Sources

FeedHalton receives support from food banks, industry partners, and local communities in the service area. We procure food through purchases and donations from corporate entities, provincial and federal organizations, retailers, and food drives. In addition, as a member of Feed Ontario, we leverage opportunity purchases to offer items at reduced costs compared to retail prices for our partner agencies.

  • Cross-Sector Collaboration

FeedHalton actively cooperates with other food distribution hubs in Ontario, such as The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, North York Harvest, and Food Banks Mississauga. These collaborative relationships facilitate the exchange of information, knowledge, and resources, promoting the adoption of best practices and expanding the reach of support throughout the wider province.

  • Halton Hub

Through a collaborative relationship, FeedHalton and Food for Life have developed an innovative approach to strengthening regional capacity by combining transportation routes and logistics. This Halton Hub optimizes local resources to minimize duplication and improve delivery efficiency.

Key Advantages to Partnership

Strengthening the food system across the Region of Halton is key in addressing rising food insecurity issues. FeedHalton provides a more secure food system by:

  • Improved efficiency

Streamlining the supply chain among multiple food banks reduces duplication of efforts and enhances inventory management, optimizes food sorting and storage, improves logistics, minimizes food waste, and ensures timely distribution.

  • Cost savings

By leveraging economies of scale through bulk purchasing, reduced transportation costs, and shared resources, food banks can lower the cost per unit of distributed food. The resulting savings can be redirected to acquire more food or enhance other services.

  • Better resource allocation

Some agencies may face a moderate shortfall while others have a surplus. Improved tracking and management of food donations and distributions allow for allocation based on need, reducing inequalities and ensuring all participating food banks receive an appropriate share of resources.

  • Improved collaboration and coordination

A unified network for sharing information, best practices, and resources fosters a more coordinated approach to food insecurity and supports a cross-docking function.

  • Enhanced fundraising and donations

Demonstrating efficient management of donations and a broader impact provides a more compelling rationale for donors. Donors are motivated to contribute when they perceive that their donations are effectively utilized to create a significant outcome.

  • Disaster and emergency response

During times of crisis, there is an enhanced capability to respond swiftly and effectively. Rapid mobilization of resources facilitates large-scale food distribution efforts, providing vital support to affected communities.
